Man held for Obama assassination threat
An affidavit filed by a Secret Service agent in U.S. District Court claims that Raymond Hunter Geisel, of Marathon, Florida, threatened to "kill, kidnap and cause bodily harm upon a major candidate for president of the United States, that is, Senator Barack Obama."

We've had way too many pooties pass over the Rainbow Bridge this year and last. We still have a few left, but they are all ancient. So - as luck would have it - we had to swing by PetSmart for some supplies, and - who do we see there but this little cutie-pie?

So of COURSE, we brought him home.
[sigh]
Little heartbreaks walking is what they are.
MONEY BOMB! For our Irish Brother, O'Bama!

Time for an Obama money bomb in honor of St Patrick's day!

Tiny Irish Village Is Latest Place to Claim Obama as Its Own
MONEYGALL, Ireland -- Here they call him O'Bama.
Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, Democratic candidate for president, is the talk of this village because recently unearthed records indicate that he is a son of Moneygall.
Stephen Neill, a local Anglican rector, said church documents he has found, along with census, immigration and other records tracked down by U.S. genealogists, appear to show that Obama's great-great-great-grandfather, Fulmuth Kearney, was reared in Moneygall, then left for America in 1850, when he was 19.

The best response to Ann Coulter I have read so far is from Andrew Sullivan. He posted it on Tuesday, I just saw it last night. I read it in my local paper. I recommend highly that you go and read the whole thing right NOW.
Here are a few excerpts – but it really doesn’t do it justice. Please please please read the whole thing! The piece packs an emotional punch. I was moved to tears. Anyone who is gay or has someone gay in their life (or simply has any compassion for their fellow humans) will be able to relate to this post.
In addition – it’s written very well. I’d think that even if Ann Coulter was your bestest friend in the whole world, and you believe with all of your heart that she is always right – you’d STILL enjoy this, simply for the exceptional writing.
What is this 'Middle Class' you speak of?
Tue Jul 11, 2006 at 09:33:55 AM PDT
My husband got laid off yesterday.
They are "restructuring" the company to "maximize market flexibility". My husband is 48 years old, with only a high school diploma - what "market flexibility" does he have? He's a good man - he's a great employee, he always works hard, does the right thing, plays by the rules and yet he gets screwed. My poor husband is such a ... what's the word? Fair? Logical? I can't express it - but he is so disappointed that all this time he thought that if he lived his life a certain way, he'd get a certain result - do you know what I mean? That's how he was raised. After this - the third layoff - he feels as if he's in the middle of a life sized board game that he MUST play, but cannot understand. What are the rules? How do you "score"? How can you avoid "losing"?
Crisis of Faith
Thu Mar 23, 2006 at 08:47:55 AM PDT
I have no more Faith. I am spent. I am done. I surrender.
I feel as if we have been abandoned by whatever kind and loving entity that I had always - until recently - trusted in. I am starting to think that all that I have believed my whole life - that bad guys finish last, that good will triumph over evil, karma - all of that - was just bullshit.
Evil DOES triumph. Good may or may not be rewarded in the afterlife, but it don't mean shit here. It's all about "me", what's in it for "me"? How mean can I be to my neighbor? Someone needs help? Screw them! I got mine - it's up to them to get theirs. If they can't, well they're just lazy and don't deserve it. I'm going to drive my Hummer - screw the environment. Who cares about trees? Damn commie tree hugging lib'ruls, that's who. Pussies. Who wants to be one of THOSE?

Mad props to
gracchus and
oratorio for inspiring me to read this GREAT speech!

This speech moved me so much, I felt the need to share it.
Please take a moment and read the whole thing. I will offer some excerpts here.
I admit to you with much embarrassment that I am mostly ignorant about history - even that of the country in which I live. So some of the things in this speech may be news to only me. In any case - I hope you enjoy:

My dad has asked me to post this diary on his behalf. His passion for the Subject at Hand is so much stronger than his Internet Savvy.
Here is his plea to George Bush:
I beg you to make a confession, as all good Christians do, and repent. Your soul is at stake. It is written, "What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world but suffer the loss of his soul?" Do not turn your back on God's divine mercy. For your own sake, please make a confession and repent.
