'Twas again the night before Christmas, and all through the blog...

...not a creature was stirring, not even a dog.

Our traffic decreased, though our rants weren't suspended,
Lamenting the knowledge that candidate diaries are never ended.
The kossacks were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of effective government danced in their heads.
But we in our houses, apartments, and shacks
Are not about to settle in for a long winter nap.

Not when our leaders are such a disaster
Because opposition is a skill too many Democrats never mastered.
And our civil liberties are being destroyed
While Republicans accuse us of being paranoid.

Electoral reform is still only a dream,
Leaving BushCo and Diebold free to continue to scheme
About destroying democracy and promoting fear
Of non-whites and non-Christians, and all we hold dear.

With tax breaks for billionaires and hikes for the rest,
And healthcare for the wealthy, but screw all the rest!
Record profits for Big Oil, and subsidies too,
We have no choice but to fight, so here's what we'll do:

Now kos! Now Carnacki! Now, nyceve!
On, Dood! On, buhdy! On, Jerome a Paris!
To the end of this nonsense! To crash the gate!
Now crash away! Crash away! To 2008!

We'll develop new policy and lobby our reps,
And convince them they must do what is best
For the entire country, not just the rich,
We must make them listen; won't that be a switch?

We'll accelerate the decline of traditional media,
Log our accomplishments in the dKosopedia,
Eliminate corruption, make public education more sound,
Clean up the environment -- opportunities abound!
Just like last year, you can't have a diary like this without a dancing cat.
We must do something about Darfur, close Guantanamo Bay,
Keep it from becoming a second Abu Ghraib.
Extremist appointees must be blocked
And we can keep BushCo from putting us further into hock.

Our candidates -- make them more progressive! More loyal! More true!
Their votes more reliable, their states more blue!
Let's get rid of the DINOs come primary season,
And let's find a presidential contender governed by reason,
With charisma to spare and curiosity,
And the ability to rescue our government from mediocity.
Someone of integrity who has been protesting out loud
Against the evils of BushCo and its would-be successors, a candidate to make us proud.
Hey, I'm still holding out until someone impresses me!
Someone who cares about Americans more than him- or herself,
Who won't leave important legislation rotting on a shelf.
Who wants to fix our problems and realizes the cost
Of waiting to act until the best options are lost.

Who will speak a few words and go straight to work
On repairing the lives wrecked by that Dumbya jerk.
Who knows the Constitution isn't "quaint,"
And will toil diligently to remove the BushCo taint.

But though we must wait for real progressive leadership to emerge,
I do not mean to post here a dirge.
We've had a good year, we've done what is right,
So happy holidays to all, and to all a good night!
